BSF kills 7 Pakistani terrorists at Samba border:S-400 Akash destroys drones, 17 dead as Pakistan intensifies attacks across Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, May 9, 2025 – Pakistan unleashed a massive offensive, deploying over 100 drones and missiles targeting critical locations across Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Pathankot, and areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border. Indian air defense systems, including the indigenous Akash and Russian S-400, effectively countered the assault, neutralizing the aerial threats.

In a swift response, the Border Security Force (BSF) eliminated seven Pakistani terrorists attempting to infiltrate through the Samba sector on the night of May 8-9. Meanwhile, Pakistan intensified shelling in multiple LoC regions, including Kupwara, Uri, Baramulla, and RS Pura, causing civilian casualties and widespread damage.

The violence has claimed 17 lives, with over 50 injuries reported. Civilian infrastructure, including homes and vehicles, has been heavily damaged in districts like Rajouri, Poonch, and Uri. In Uri’s Salamabad village, residents like Mohammad Sahil reported destroyed homes due to relentless Pakistani attacks. On May 8, 13-year-old Vihan Bargawa was killed in Poonch during shelling, while in Uri, Nargis Begum lost her life, and Hafiza Bibi was injured.

Entire villages in Rajouri and Poonch have been evacuated as residents flee amid ongoing artillery fire. Shailesh Kumar from Rajouri described chaotic scenes of families escaping with livestock under the cover of night. Indian forces deployed L-70 guns, ZU-23 mm cannons, Shilka systems, and advanced anti-drone technology in areas like Udhampur, Samba, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot, downing over 50 drones.

The situation remains volatile with continuous cross-border firing in Uri, Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri, and Akhnoor. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited injured victims at GMC Rajouri and is closely monitoring developments. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is set to meet army personnel today to assess the situation.

In response to heightened security threats, all schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir have been shut down, and the region remains on high alert following the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7. Pakistani forces also attempted a drone strike on Pathankot Air Base on Thursday night, which was thwarted by Indian defenses.

The ongoing aggression has sparked widespread fear, with civilians bearing the brunt of the escalating conflict. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant as the situation unfolds.
