The United States has reiterated its firm support for India in the fight against terrorism following the recent Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau conveyed this during a meeting with an Indian all-party parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in Washington.
The delegation, on the US leg of a multi-nation outreach, briefed Landau on Operation Sindoor — India’s counter-terror response targeting camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Landau termed the meeting as “GREAT” and highlighted the importance of deepening the US-India strategic partnership, including expanding trade and economic cooperation.
A statement from the US State Department reaffirmed America’s strong commitment to India in countering terrorism and enhancing bilateral ties. The Indian Embassy echoed similar sentiments, noting a productive exchange on strengthening cooperation in mutual areas of interest.
The delegation also met Senator Chris Van Hollen, who expressed solidarity with India and condemned repeated terror attacks. Tharoor also held a telephonic conversation with Senator Cory Booker, who expressed support for India’s right to self-defense and condemned cross-border terrorism.
The delegation included MPs Sarfaraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur Balayogi, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Milind Deora, Tejasvi Surya, and former Indian Ambassador Taranjit Sandhu. They also attended a special reception hosted by the Indian Embassy, which was joined by several US lawmakers and policy experts.
