Filmmaker TJ Gnanavel, renowned for his critically acclaimed film Jai Bhim, is joining forces with Junglee Pictures for his upcoming feature film Dosa King. The film will chronicle the dramatic rise and fall of Saravana Bhavan founder P. Rajagopal, a story marked by an intense 18-year legal battle and a landmark conviction.
Gnanavel, who is currently working on the highly anticipated Vettaiyan with superstar Rajinikanth, will co-write Dosa King with Hemanth Rao. Rao is known for his work on films like Godhi Banna Saadharna Manushya, Kavaludaari, and Sapta Saagaradaache Ello – Side A/Side B.
Set to be mounted on a grand scale, Dosa King is inspired by the sensational and tragic story of P. Rajagopal, famously known as the ‘Dosa King’. The film will delve into the complex narrative surrounding Rajagopal and Jeevajothi, the daughter of his former employee, who became the object of his obsession.
Gnanavel, who has been following Jeevajothi’s story since his days as a journalist, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He remarked that while the press sensationalized many aspects of the case, much of the story remains untold. Dosa King aims to offer a hard-hitting exploration of the criminal case, focusing on its crime and thriller elements. Gnanavel sees this film as an opportunity to present a deeper, untold perspective on the case he witnessed firsthand 20 years ago.
Amrita Pandey, CEO of Junglee Pictures, praised Dosa King as a thrilling narrative that requires a masterful blend of scale, drama, and entertainment. She expressed excitement about collaborating with Gnanavel, noting that the script, crafted through extensive research by Gnanavel and Rao, promises powerful twists and nuanced character portrayals, aiming for a high-octane commercial and cinematic experience.
In addition to Dosa King, Gnanavel’s next film, Vettaiyan, is set to release on October 10. The film features a star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier, and Dushara Vijayan. Vettaiyan marks a significant reunion between Rajinikanth and Bachchan, who last collaborated on the 1991 film Hum.
