Kolkata: A major road accident took place in the Nadia district of West Bengal on Friday morning. Five people, including a child, have died in a collision of a passenger vehicle with a truck coming from the front on a narrow road here. The incident took place in the district’s Nukshwipada. Locals said that the passenger vehicle going from Raiganj to Bathuadahari collided with a truck coming from the front near Nukvapada. The collision was so strong that five people, including a child, died on the spot while several others were injured and were admitted to a nearby hospital.

It is learned that work is going on for a long time on the national highway here. The work was stopped in the middle, and despite this, the national highway was narrowed to a single lane. The passenger vehicle was passing at high speed through the same narrow road and the truck going from the front towards Baharampur was coming at high speed due to which both of them collided face to face. The identity of the dead is yet to be ascertained. Local people have expressed their displeasure over the incident. They allege that there is never any monitoring of the traffic police here and accidents happen usually. Police have started an investigation into the incident.
