Ceasefire Agreed Between India and Pakistan

Donald Trump announced it first on X platform, followed by confirmation from India

On the evening of May 10, amid rising tensions, a positive development emerged: India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire. Former U.S. President Donald Trump was the first to announce on the X platform that both countries had agreed to a ceasefire. Shortly after, India officially confirmed the news.

At a special press conference held by the Ministry of External Affairs at 6 PM, India confirmed that both nations had agreed to uphold the ceasefire. It was also announced that the ceasefire had officially come into effect from 5 PM that evening.

To recall, there was widespread anger in India following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. It was widely anticipated that India would retaliate strongly — and it did. Fifteen days after the attack, during the night of May 6 and 7, India launched a powerful airstrike on Pakistan under ‘Operation Sindoor,’ killing several terrorists.

Before this, India had already taken several bold measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, in an effort to diplomatically and strategically isolate Pakistan. However, tensions continued to escalate after May 7.

Donald Trump’s message on the X platform made it clear that the U.S. had played a key role in persuading officials from both countries to maintain peace through overnight diplomacy. During this time, India received strong international support, and there was rare unity at home, with both the ruling party and the opposition speaking in one voice.
