New Delhi: Over alleged inflammatory remarks, the Delhi police filed FIRs against All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi and Dasna Devi Temple priest Yati Narsinghanand on Thursday.

The actions were taken to combat misinformation and falsehood on social media. The Delhi police’s IFSO unit filed cases against several people under various provisions for spreading hateful messages, inciting groups, and creating an atmosphere detrimental to public tranquility.

The news comes amid a controversy surrounding the suspension of BJP leader Nupur Sharma for allegedly making controversial religious remarks during a TV debate.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police said on Tuesday that it had provided security to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma following the filing of a FIR on a complaint that she was receiving death threats as a result of her controversial religious remarks.

The Bharatiya Janata Party suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma from the party’s primary membership on Sunday for allegedly making inflammatory remarks about minorities.

The BJP stated that it respects all religions and is vehemently opposed to any ideology that insults or demeans any sect or religion while suspending Sharma. Gulf countries were outraged by the BJP leader’s remark.

India has stated that it has taken harsh measures against those who have made controversial remarks about minorities.
