10 Judicial Officers Recommended for Appointment as Judges in Punjab and Haryana High Court

    New Delhi, July 4, 2025 —

In a significant development aimed at strengthening the judiciary, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of 10 judicial officers to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The decision was taken during a recent meeting of the Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, along with Justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath.

The names of the judicial officers recommended for elevation are:

    1. Virinder Aggarwal

    2. Mandeep Pannu

    3. Parmod Goyal

    4. Shalini Singh Nagpal

    5. Amarinder Singh Grewal

    6. Subhas Mehla

    7. Surya Partap Singh

    8. Rupinderjit Chahal

    9. Aradhana Sawhney

    10. Yashvir Singh Rathor

Following formal approval and notification by the central government, the strength of the Punjab and Haryana High Court is expected to increase from the current 51 judges to 61, against a sanctioned strength of 85.

In its statement, the Supreme Court confirmed that the Collegium held deliberations on July 1 and 2, during which it recommended several names for appointments across various High Courts in the country. This includes both advocates and serving judicial officers.

For the Delhi High Court, the recommended names include judicial officers Vinod Kumar, Shail Jain, and Madhu Jain. For the Madhya Pradesh High Court, five advocates—Pushpendra Yadav, Anand Singh Bahrawat, Ajay Kumar Nirankari, Jai Kumar Pillai, and Himanshu Joshi—and five judicial officers—Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Alok Awasthi, Ratnesh Chandra Singh Bisen, Bhagwati Prasad Sharma, and Pradeep Mittal—have been recommended for elevation.

In Telangana, the Collegium has proposed the names of advocates Gouse Meera Mohiuddin, Chalapathi Rao Suddala, Vakiti Ramakrishna Reddy, and Gadi Praveen Kumar. Advocate Tuhin Kumar Gedela has been recommended for the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

For Rajasthan High Court, advocate Anuroop Singhi and judicial officer Sangeeta Sharma have been proposed. At the Patna High Court, advocates Ajit Kumar and Praveen Kumar have been recommended.

Additionally, the Collegium has suggested the elevation of advocates Anjan Moni Kalita and Rajesh Mazumdar, and judicial officers Pranjal Das and Sanjeev Kumar Sharma to the Gauhati High Court.

In another recommendation, Justice Biswadeep Bhattacharjee, who is currently serving as an Additional Judge of the Meghalaya High Court, has been proposed for appointment as a Permanent Judge of the same court.

These appointments, once cleared by the central government, are expected to improve judicial capacity and address the pendency of cases in various high courts across the country.
