Patiala:Sukhbir Singh Badal, the head of the Shiromani Akali Dal, described the Congress’ declaration on Sunday that Charanjit Singh Channi would be the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the 2018 elections as a “victory of the sand mafia.”
“The’mafia’ of the sand has triumphed. A sand’mafia’ is their CM face “Badal stated.
He went on to say, “Punjabis have made up their minds. We (the SAD) had a resounding victory in the polls.”
In Ludhiana on Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi confirmed that incumbent Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will be the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
Opposition parties have accused Channi of being involved in a “sand mafia” after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the home of Channi’s relative.
In connection with an alleged illegal sand mining case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized more than Rs 10 crore in cash, gold worth more than Rs 21 lakh, and a Rolex watch worth Rs 12 lakh from the residential premises of land mafia Bhupinder Singh Honey, a relative of state Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and others.
Punjab will hold elections on February 14 and the results will be announced on March 10. (ANI)
