Chandigarh: In view of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Chandigarh administration has issued a strict advisory directing all commercial establishments, except those providing essential services, to close by 7 PM daily.
The directive, effective immediately, applies to all markets, shops, and street stalls across the city. Only medical stores and emergency service providers are exempt from the early closure order.
In addition to restricting business hours, the administration has instructed shop owners to switch off exterior lighting, including signboards and CCTV display lights, after 7 PM. The move is aimed at minimizing visibility in public areas as a security measure.
Police and Police Control Room (PCR) teams have been deployed for round-the-clock patrolling and are using loudspeakers to inform residents of the new regulations. Authorities have stated that non-compliance will lead to strict action under relevant legal provisions.
The decision follows nationwide alerts and increased military activity along the India-Pakistan border, prompting local governments to heighten preparedness and ensure public safety.
