As tensions between India and Pakistan reach new heights, Pakistan’s attempts to attack Indian military targets have been thwarted by India’s robust missile defense system. Since the launch of *Operation Sindoor*, Pakistan has escalated its missile and drone attacks on India, but these efforts have largely failed.
Pakistan launched missile and drone strikes on India on May 7 and 8, 2025. On May 8, Pakistan fired a PL-15E missile at India, which was successfully intercepted and destroyed by India’s missile defense system. The remains of the missile were found in a village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. These missiles are part of a larger purchase from China, with Pakistan having acquired 240 such missiles.
On May 9, Pakistan also deployed a CH-4 drone, which is part of a fleet of 15 drones purchased from China. While it remains unclear whether the drones were deployed effectively, their performance fell short of expectations. Additionally, Pakistan deployed the HQ-9P air defense system, also sourced from China, but India successfully destroyed this system early on May 9.
Pakistan’s reliance on Chinese-made weapons did not yield the expected results, as India’s defense systems, including the S-400 air defense system, effectively neutralized these attacks.
In another major development, India’s response to Pakistan’s aggression included the downing of two JF-17 Thunder fighter jets and one J-10C fighter jet, both of which were also supplied by China. India’s countermeasures have disrupted several of Pakistan’s attacks, rendering them ineffective.
As the situation escalates, India has issued warnings of potential airstrikes in Chandigarh and Ambala, with the Rajasthan government evacuating villages within a 20-kilometer radius of the Pakistan border, particularly around the Jaisalmer area.
Meanwhile, the central government continues to monitor the security situation closely, holding review meetings to assess the ongoing threats. Despite the constant barrage of attacks from Pakistan, India’s military prowess has effectively neutralized these efforts, leaving Pakistan’s military strategies in disarray.
