New Delhi, June 14 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation tour from Sunday, with scheduled visits to Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday. The visit includes Mr. Modi’s participation in the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, and bilateral engagements in the two European countries.

The visit to Croatia will mark the first-ever official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the southeastern European nation, while the visit to Cyprus will be the first by an Indian prime minister in over two decades.

Engagements in Cyprus

Mr. Modi will arrive in Nicosia on June 15 at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides. During the two-day visit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral talks with the Cypriot leadership and address a business forum in Limassol.

According to the MEA, the visit will “reaffirm the shared commitment of the two countries to deepen bilateral ties and strengthen India’s engagement with the Mediterranean region and the European Union”.

Sixth Consecutive Participation at G7

On June 16, Mr. Modi will travel to Kananaskis, Alberta, to attend the G7 Summit, being held under the presidency of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This will be Mr. Modi’s sixth consecutive participation in the summit of the world’s advanced economies.

The Prime Minister is expected to participate in deliberations on energy security, emerging technologies, and the AI-energy nexus, in addition to holding bilateral meetings with leaders of G7 member states and other outreach participants.

The G7 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, along with the European Union as a non-enumerated member. India has been regularly invited to participate in outreach sessions of the grouping in recent years.

A phone call between Mr. Modi and Mr. Carney earlier this month paved the way for the visit, with both sides reportedly discussing avenues for a potential reset in India–Canada relations, which have seen strains in recent months. The MEA has maintained that New Delhi remains committed to “mutual respect, shared interests, and sensitivity to each other’s concerns” in engaging with Ottawa.

First-Ever Visit to Croatia

The final leg of the Prime Minister’s visit will take him to Zagreb on June 18, where he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and call on President Zoran Milanović. The visit is being seen as an effort to enhance India’s engagement with smaller member states of the European Union.

The MEA said the visit “underscores India’s continued commitment to strengthening relations with partners in the EU and deepening its strategic presence in the Central European region”.

The three-nation tour comes against the backdrop of global uncertainty over energy markets, ongoing security concerns in West Asia, and renewed diplomatic activity within the European bloc. Analysts say Mr. Modi’s outreach to Cyprus and Croatia may help diversify India’s European engagement beyond its traditional partners, while his attendance at the G7 will further consolidate India’s role as a key voice in shaping global governance.
