Fog Disrupts Train Services in Delhi and UP
Dense fog enveloped 16 states across India for the second consecutive day, severely affecting visibility in many cities, with some regions experiencing thick fog until midday. In Delhi, certain areas recorded zero visibility, leading to the delay of 45 trains. Uttar Pradesh also witnessed a significant drop in visibility, with many districts reporting reduced visibility as low as 100 meters. As a result, approximately 88 trains at Kanpur station were delayed. In total, 133 trains between Delhi and UP were delayed due to poor visibility.
Cold Weather Intensifies in Northern and Central India
The cold wave intensified across northern and central India, fueled by snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, which added to the chill in the plains. In Madhya Pradesh, the temperature dropped to a chilly 2.8°C in Shahdol. Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam recorded the coldest temperature at -10°C, while Himachal Pradesh’s Tabo saw temperatures plunging to -11°C. These extreme weather conditions have added to the discomfort of residents, especially in the northern plains.
Rain and Hailstorm Warnings in Rajasthan
Rajasthan’s weather saw significant changes, with heavy rainfall hitting 15 districts, including Jaipur and Ajmer, on Saturday morning. The state’s weather department issued warnings for hailstorms in five districts. The temperatures in Rajasthan are expected to drop further in the coming days, continuing the region’s struggle with cold weather.
Fog in Other Regions and Reduced Visibility
In other parts of the country, dense fog led to reduced visibility. Haridwar experienced thick fog, and poor visibility was expected throughout the day. Muradabad recorded visibility under 50 meters, while Delhi’s Akshardham faced issues with reduced visibility, making driving hazardous. In Prayagraj, people took a dip in the river despite temperatures dipping below 10°C.
Upcoming Weather Forecast
- 12th January: Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will receive heavy rainfall. Dense fog will persist in Rajasthan, MP, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. North Indian states may also experience rainfall.
- 13th January: Dense fog is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. A warning for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, and Kerala. Northern states are likely to receive rainfall as well.
As cold and foggy conditions continue to disrupt daily life, authorities are advising people to stay updated on weather warnings and take precautions when traveling.
