Patna :After years of anticipation, Patna is on the verge of entering India’s metro map. The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) has announced that metro operations will commence on August 15, marking a transformative moment for the capital of Bihar. In an emotional and poetic message posted on X (formerly Twitter), PMRC said, “The silence of waiting is breaking… Patna is rising.”
The inaugural phase, dubbed the “Priority Corridor,” will run from Malahi Pakri (Kankarbagh) to ISBT and includes five stations. With final touches underway, the metro trains are expected to roll out from Independence Day 2025.
PMRC’s message emphasized not just infrastructure but sentiment:
“From steel to soul, your metro is being built with heart at every turn… This is the rhythm of Patna’s awakening. When a city starts to move, its destiny moves too.”
Color-coded Lines for Easy Travel
Mirroring Delhi Metro’s model, Patna’s corridors will be color-coded to assist passengers, including those who are illiterate, in identifying their routes easily. The Priority Corridor will be known as the Blue Line, with additional colored lines planned for future expansion.
On-Track Progress and Facilities
The metro’s depot is currently buzzing with activity. PMRC reports that several critical installations are underway, including:
- Overhead Equipment (OHE) adjustments
- Isolator fittings for electrical safety
- Track shifting in turnout zones to finalize routing
The finishing work on all five stations along the Malahi Pakri–ISBT stretch is in its final phase. Key passenger amenities such as waiting halls, ticket counters, restrooms, and power supply systems are almost ready.
Coaches Ready and Tech-Enabled
Interestingly, the metro coaches—originally built for Pune Metro—have now arrived in Patna. Each train set comes equipped with onboard signaling systems, ensuring automated, secure operations from the very start.

PMRC’s message highlights a broader ambition:
“We are building more than just a metro—we are shaping a moving future.”
As the city prepares to take this significant leap, the metro is being projected not just as a transportation system but as a symbol of urban growth and aspiration.
